My last post about cats hating restraint was more directed at being physically held down. This is about a cat named Murphy, named for Murphy's Law ("Anything that can go wrong, will.") He hospitalized a while back because of an intestinal obstruction. He had consumed a pinky-sized portion of cat-toy and it stopped about half-way through.
He did well with his surgery, but he had to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. He did not WANT to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. You have never seen anybody work so diligently to get out of his cage. He gripped the door with his mouth, and really worked at it. He was doing this almost constantly before we realized what he was doing to himself. He succeeded in breaking off some baby teeth, but he didn't get out.
What he did get was this "unibrow" wound on his head from digging his whole head into the bars. I have never seen anything like it. You would think that would hurt badly enought that Murphy would have taken a new approach to the problem. That's not what happened, though. I emailed these pictures to Mom, and she said, "I am on my way!". When she arrived to get him, she said he looked like Rocky Balboa.
Cats really do hate restraint. Fortunately, they also have remarkable healing powers. He has a bit of scar, but he also has his permanent teeth, and he looks okay now. We're hoping he will confine his eating to food items in the future.
Wow, he really did hate being in that cage. Being a cat owner myself, I find mine absolutely hate being kept from anything they want to do. I am very glad he survived his ordeal mostly unscathed.
